‘A Jewel in Monmouthshire’s Crown’ – Review of The Beaufort, Raglan.

THE Beaufort Coaching Inn and Brasserie is a jewel in Monmouthshire’s crown that sits against the backdrop of the Medieval Raglan Castle.

The romantic inn has been at the heart of village life in Raglan for nearly 600 years. It breathes romance and is steeped in history giving its visitors the feeling that its past characters are oozing out of the walls pores.

A home from home, the lounge bar and cosy snug all blend perfectly with the smart modern style of the Spanish-influenced Brasserie, which is a nod to the heritage of current custodian Miguel Santiago, who took over in 2015.

Food has been offered here for centuries. The Roundhead soldiers used to refresh themselves here during the siege of Raglan Castle in 1646 and it continues serving food that will bring you back time and time again.

An impressive a la carte menu features seafood- a speciality at the inn- with Whole Dover Sole, a Shellfish platter and Seabass among the popular dishes.

From relaxing on the comfortable seating on the terrace (blankets are provided in the winter) with a splendid view directly onto the Grade II-listed St Cadoc’s Church whilst alfresco dining and soaking up the summer sun to drinking mulled wine in the cosy bar during the winter, the  Visit Wales 4 Star inn is a warm and inviting Welsh gem.

Miguel has lovingly refurbished the hotel whilst maintaining its original features, adding their own personal touches to create a charming and warm surrounding. From vibrant-coloured walls adorned with artwork to antiques filling every corner and beautifully positioned books for guests to browse during their stay- The Beaufort exudes charm.

The perfect place for a weekend break or a holiday exploring the Usk Valley and beyond, The Beaufort attracts cyclists, golfer, walkers and tourists from all over the world.

With 18 recently refurbished en-suite boutique rooms, split between the main hotel and the adjoining Coach House offering snuggly duvets, crisp cotton sheets and inspiring views, together with their legendary breakfasts, it’s impossible not to fall in love with everything about this coaching inn.
